This Romantic Suspense is a bookstore recommended summer read, and I've included a few of my favorite review site quotes below.  Thanks for stopping by and happy reading!

"The suspense of who-done-it leaves you on the edge of your seat.  If you enjoy a romantic suspense that plays with your mind while the romance tugs at your heart, Dangerous Currents needs to be on your TBR list!" ~  Forget the Housework, I'm Reading (5*s)

"I'm a huge Romantic Suspense fan, and I must admit, Dangerous Currents kept me guessing until the very end.  Malorie and Dean are addictive to read...The second chance romance lit up my e-reader.  Talk about intense!  I started reading and couldn't stop...yes, it was that good!  Highly recommend." ~ N.N. Light's Book Heaven (5*s)

"Ms. Knight knows how to bring her characters to life!  We are invited into their heads, their hearts, to hear their thoughts, feel their fears...The tension that runs through Kathryn Knight's words, each page and scene, is razor sharp.  I love a story where I can honestly say 'I didn't see THAT coming!'  A second chance at romance, layers of suspense...priceless reading!" ~ Tome Tender Book Blog (5*s)

Why Easter's Date Moves Around, + a #Giveaway! #Easter

I've had a busy spring, and I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family over our son's school vacation and Easter Weekend.  Plus, my college son will be home for Easter--yay!  My nephew's birthday lines up with Easter this year, so we'll celebrate that as well.  This is the first time this has happened in his life, so I'm reposting my blog on Why Easter's Date Changes (and how we find it!)...and I have a Spring gift for anyone who enjoys reading Romantic Suspense...and offer for 19 FREE books to fill your e-reader!

With my usual disclaimer about being a novelist and not a historian, here's what I've discovered:

According to documents from the 3rd and 4th centuries, Christians relied on their Jewish neighbors to determine the week of the Unleavened Bread; the Sunday that fell within that week would be Easter.  Following the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, the date of Easter was separated from the Jewish calendar and its computations for Passover.

Since then, Easter Day is always the Sunday after the full moon that occurs on or after the Northern spring equinox, which is based on an ancient ecclesiastical computation, and does not correspond to the astronomical equinox.  The church defines the spring, or vernal, equinox as falling on March 21st.  Easter falls on the Sunday following the first full moon after the equinox.  This full moon will occur somewhere between March 21st and April 18th, inclusive.  Therefore, Easter cannot be earlier than March 22nd or later than April 25th.  In 2008, Easter was particularly early, falling on March 23rd.  That hadn't happened since 1913, and will not happen again until 2160.

Of course, there are handy tables available to find the date.  But those tables are derived from something called "The Golden Number" and "The Sunday Letter".  The Golden Number is computed by taking the year, dividing it by 19, and adding 1 to the remainder.  For example, 2014 divided by 19 gives 106, with a remainder of 0. Adding 1 to the remainder gives a golden number of 1.  Finding the Sunday Letter involves determining the first Sunday of the year, with the choices ranging from A through G.  For example, if the first Sunday in January falls on the 1st, that year is an "A" year.

So...why not a fixed date?  The short answer, really, is that Easter moves around from year to year in order to maintain the connection between the astronomical events (the phase of the moon and the season) which would have occurred during the Resurrection and the annual date on which we celebrate this holiday.

Whatever spring holiday or event you celebrate, I hope it's filled with family and happiness.  Take some time to enjoy nature's resurrection--the new life, strengthening sun, and longer days that characterize this season.  And if the Easter bunny visits (that's a whole 'nother story...blog post for next Easter maybe?), remind him to put some new reads in your basket!

And on that note, as promised, I have a Spring Gift for Romantic Suspense fans!  Click on the event page below to visit the Sizzling Spring Romantic Suspense Giveaway, and find 19 free novels and 3 special excerpts up for grabs with author newsletter sign-ups.  My steamy second-chance romance Dangerous Currents is included in this promo, so I hope you'll grab your free copy and enjoy Dean and Malorie's story!  Happy Spring :)

A #Free #Book of "Hacks" for the Holidays! #Recipes #Christmas #Lifehacks

Every year, my publisher offers a free recipe book, as a gift to our readers, filled with contributions from the authors of The Wild Rose Press.  We vote on different themes each year, and we've offered Garden Gourmet collections featuring easy meals and snacks, international recipes, cookies and cocktails, and healthy recipes in the past...these books are still available, for free, on our website!  This year, we did something a little different...our "recipes" for Garden Gourmet 2017 are actually "hacks" - shortcuts or tricks to make tasks more simple, whether they involve cooking, cleaning, or just life in general.

So grab you free ebook here: A Holiday of Hacks, and discover some new ways to save time and effort!  You can easily check out on our website via Amazon, and we offer downloads for Kindle (mobi), Nook (epub), and for your laptop (pdf).

Here are the previous years' recipe books as well...Enjoy!  Happy Holidays!

A #1 #Kindle Bestseller - #Haunted Mystery + #Romance #PrimeReading #KU

I tend to do a lot of posting in October, since I’m a writer of ghost stories and other paranormal mysteries as well as a fan of all things spooky.  I have 3 library presentations coming up and two Halloween Blog Hops with lots of prizes, plus the start of a new Fiction Class and a post from a private tour I received of some haunted places in Barnstable Village, the setting of HAUNTED SOULS.  I need to finish up all those posts and get them out before the events.  But I had to share my exciting—and somewhat unexpected—news about my debut novel, SILVER LAKE.

Last year, Amazon’s traditional publishing house bought the electronic rights to Silver Lake from its original publisher.  Their Encore imprint acquires successful books that would do even better with additional promotion.  It was an exciting offer and one I embraced enthusiastically.  A few months after that, last fall, Amazon must have done a big promotion for the book, because it shot to #1 in its category.  It was thrilling to see an older book receive that many downloads.

This summer, a new program was in the works—PrimeReading, a promotion to benefit Amazon Prime members by offering some select Kindle books free.  Silver Lake was chosen, with an advance royalty offered to participate.  Again, I jumped at the chance…but I had no idea when the program would roll out.

Well, as I discovered when I saw my first book climbing up its category again, it appears to have launched the other day.  Silver Lake hit #1 in Ghost Fiction and I, of course, grabbed a screenshot of the shiny orange banner.  Then I suddenly realized *I’m* a Prime Member too, and I went into clicking mode.  A few of the books I’m looking forward to reading: My Sister’s Grave, Follow You Home, and Sleep Tight.  Did I mention I like spooky suspense?  Those titles say it all.

So if you’re a Prime Member (or enrolled in Kindle Unlimited), you can download Silver Lake for FREE!  I’m not privy to all the details, but my understanding is this is a limited time offer for these particular titles.  So go grab some new reads!  You’ll not only get spooky suspense (perfect for the Halloween season) from Silver Lake, but also a reunion romance.  Happy Haunted Reading!

#Free Cookies + Cocktails #Recipe Book! Holiday #Baking #TWRP

Every December, my publisher puts out a free gift--the annual "Holiday Garden Gourmet" Recipe Book.  In the fall, our marketing directer puts out the call for ideas for themes, and the authors of The Wild Rose Press vote.  This year, we came up with "Cookies and Cocktails"--the perfect combo for celebrating with family and friends this season (not to mention a few of my favorite things!).

Free Download!
The authors offer up with original recipes, often passed down through the family, and contribute to the book, which is then offered on our website as a free pdf download.  You can find it right here: Cookies and Cocktails.

While you're there, you can check out the offerings from previous years in our Free Reads section, as they are still available for download.  Last year's theme was quick and easy meals.  I've contributed every year since my first book came out, in 2012.  This year, I share my family's Holiday Rum Punch recipe.  Christmas brunch didn't feel complete without it, and my siblings even gave me a beautiful glass punch bowl as a wedding gift so I could continue the tradition.

A dangerous ghost & an ex-boyfriend await psychic medium
Claire Linden in Cape Cod's GULL HARBOR

And don't forget that reading is a healthy way to reduce stress, which seems to go hand-in-hand with the holidays.  My novels are a page-turning mix of haunting suspense and steamy romance, so consider downloading the #1 Kindle Bestseller GULL HARBOR for when you have a little downtime!  My other titles include SILVER LAKE and the Young Adult paranormal romance DIVINE FALL, with the new HAUNTED SOULS on the way.  Happy Holidays!

A good book and a glass of wine - bliss!

#Kindle #FREE days for Gull Harbor - Kathryn Knight

This is it--the 5 days Amazon makes Gull Harbor available for FREE as part of their Kindle Select Program.  Here's the link and blurb:

http://amzn.com/B00BK9QWNY

When Claire Linden’s job sends her to the sleepy town of Gull Harbor, she never expects to encounter her ex-boyfriend. As a medium, the prospect of tackling a haunted house is less daunting than seeing Max Baron again. Throughout their passionate college relationship, he promised to love her forever. Then, without explanation, he abandoned her on graduation day.

Max never intended to break Claire's heart—a cruel ultimatum forced him to disappear from her life. While he's shocked to find her in Gull Harbor, he isn't surprised by the bitter resentment she feels for him...or the fiery attraction that remains between them.

Claire is determined to rid her temporary home of its aggressive ghost, but Max soon realizes she's facing a danger beyond the paranormal. When Claire risks everything to help a desperate spirit, Max must race to save her—before another tragedy tears them apart forever.

Gull Harbor is a ghost story/romantic suspense set on the beautiful shores of Cape Cod.  While I created the town name, there are many actual landmarks and settings--some of my research pictures can be found on my Gull Harbor Pinterest board.  You can also get a look at inspiration for the characters:

http://pinterest.com/kknightbooks/gull-harbor/

If you don't have a Kindle, there are also free apps you can download for your laptop or other device.  These days, there are so many free books it makes sense to have the option!  Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you'll download Gull Harbor and enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
