Top #Book of 2019 ~ My 2nd Award arrived! #amreading #paranormal #romance #writerslife #amwriting

A few months ago, I received my first physical writing trophy in the mail...a beautiful solid glass book for winning first place in InD'Tale Magazine's RONE Awards, engraved with my name and The Haunting of Hillwood Farm, my latest ghost mystery/romantic suspense.  Last week, I was thrilled to open an envelope with my second physical award for this title...an award and medal for placing as a Top Read of 2019 at Read Free.ly.  The Haunting of Hillwood Farm actually came in at #2 out of 50 titles...which is an amazing feeling and also the exact same spot that Haunted Souls claimed in the 2016 awards!

And now the #2 Top Read of 2019 at Read Freely!  Woot!

I'm over the moon that The Haunting of Hillwood Farm has resonated with readers and reviewers!  I truly hope my upcoming 2020 release Ghost Moon will also be well-received...stay tuned for the *gorgeous* cover reveal and ARC and pre-order info!

When I started this journey in 2008, I barely dreamed I could get my first novel, Silver Lake, published, much less create six more novels and hit the Bestseller lists at USA TODAY, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble!  It's been a wild ride filled with both joy and tears.  But in the end, my true goal is to provide entertainment.  Reading is not only my favorite pastime, it has gotten me through some of the worst times of my life.  I find I simply can't think about other things if I'm truly absorbed in a page-turning story, and it's a welcome escape from the stresses--and worse--of life.  If I provide readers with a story that pulls them in and gives them hours of relaxation and enjoyment, I've done my job!

Thanks for coming by for my celebration, and please check back for news on Ghost Moon...or subscribe to my newsletter over on the right side of this page.  I send out news about twice a month, and I love to meet new readers!

WINNER: Paranormal – Short

For readers who enjoy heart-pounding Romantic Suspense mixed with Spooky Ghost Mysteries…A dangerous ghost brings them together…but will they survive long enough to find happiness?

After tragedy strikes, Callie Sinclair is left with a gift she never wanted—the ability to communicate with ghosts. But when a desperate widow begs for her help, she reluctantly agrees to investigate the strange occurrences at Hillwood Farm. She quickly realizes she’s dealing with a dangerous presence beyond anything she’s ever experienced, and something else becomes equally clear—the only other living person in the house, Mrs. Turner’s handsome grandson, thinks she’s a scam artist. While she’d prefer to just ignore him, her heart beats a little faster every time he’s nearby.

Luke Turner doesn’t believe in spirits. He’s moved back to restore the family farm, but living on the property serves a dual purpose—he can watch out for his grandmother. He’s not happy about the sudden appearance of a self-described psychic, or his inexplicable attraction to her. His initial suspicions crumble as evidence points to an actual haunting, but he’s still determined not to fall for Callie—the past has taught him it’s best to avoid relationships.

As Callie is drawn deeper into the mystery, she becomes the target of a vengeful spirit, and Luke can no longer fight his feelings for her. Unable to resist their desire, passion ignites…even as the paranormal activity escalates to a final deadly confrontation.

My First Trophy! RONE Award Winner Best #paranormal #romance #amwriting

Guess what arrived?  I was over the moon to learn that The Haunting of Hillwood Farm won InD'Tale Magazine's 2019 RONE Award for Best Paranormal - Short...and now it's even more "real", with a beautiful glass trophy that makes me smile every time I see it!

Opening the box made me realize this might be the first physical trophy I've ever received.  The only sports teams I was ever on in my younger years were poms in junior high and cheerleading in high school, and neither one of our squads was anywhere near good enough to compete.  For various achievements over the years, I've received a few plaques, some ribbons and medals, electronic badges and banners - all which were thrilling to earn and an honor to wear, share, or hang on the wall.  But I've never had a trophy to display on a shelf!  First time for everything right?  And for it to be for one of my books--the labor of love I spend so much time and effort on--is all the more rewarding.

The judging for the RONE Award is rigorous, with three rounds to get through.  First, a book only gets nominated if it earns a 4.5 star or higher review from InD'Tale.  Over twenty titles were nominated into my category: Paranormal - Short (meaning novella length).  The next round involved reader voting, and I asked readers, fans, and friends to help get me there...which you did, so THANK YOU again!  Becoming one of the six Finalists was such an honor, and I had no expectations beyond that.  The last round, to choose the winner, involved judges reading each of the titles and rating them.

On the weekend of the awards ceremony, I was absolutely shocked to open my phone and see a message from an author friend congratulating me on the RONE Award!  I did a double-take, read the message twice, asked for confirmation, and then pulled up Youtube to watch the ceremony myself.  It was true!

A beautiful solid glass book,
with my name and the book title engraved

I'm honored to have been among so many great books in the contest, and I appreciate everyone who voted during the Finals round!

If you haven't read The Haunting of Hillwood Farm, it's going to be on sale for 99c on Kindle starting mid-November ~ if you'd like a reminder, and more news on my books and upcoming sales and giveaways, sign up for my newletter here.

The Haunting of Hillwood Farm WON! #RONE Best #Paranormal #Ghosts #Romance #RONE2019 Awards #Books

The long weekend was great for a lot of reasons--my college kid was home, we did family stuff both nights despite the horrible weather, and I had a lunch date with the president of my publishing company and some other local Cape Cod authors who write for the company.  And then, after a movie with the family on Saturday night, we were settling in to watch a TV show and I got a FB notification from an author friend:  "Congrats on the RONE Award!"  My heart did a cautious dance as I read it over a few times and responded "Wait, WHAT?"  I told my family to stand by as I tried to figure out if I was reading and interpreting the message correctly.

Turns out, I was-- The Haunting of Hillwood Farm WON the very prestigious RONE Award in the Paranormal-Short category!  This is a very big deal in the writing world, as the judging goes through three tough phases.  First, a book has to earn either a 4.5 or 5 star review from InD'Tale Magazine.  They review hundreds of books so this is no easy task, and I was so excited when my ghost mystery/romantic suspense was given a Crowned Heart of Excellence Review by InD'Tale Magazine and thus nominated for their RONE Award.

Once the nominated titles for each category were announced, the second phase involved voting.  Readers visiting the site voted for nominated titles to move to the next round to become finalists, and I'm so grateful that The Haunting of Hillwood Farm gained the votes to become one of the six Finalists.

But even being one of six Finalists in the category did not make me think my title would win by any means.  The third phase was a panel of judges reading each book in the category and rating them.  To get the highest rating among six great books definitely felt like a long shot.

But my author friend sent me the video of the awards presentation, and yes, my book did get the highest rating, along with another title in the category for a very unusual tie!  I am over the moon.  For me, the old cliche is true...I really did feel it's an honor just to be nominated, and to make it to the finals is incredible, so I would like to again take this opportunity to voice my appreciation for everyone who voted for The Haunting of Hillwood Farm...HUGE THANKS!

To win feels like a dream...I write my stories to entertain readers and give them (hopefully) a pull-you-in-on-page-one/can't-put-it-down book to help escape the everyday stresses of life.  There's not much I enjoy more myself than finding a book that does that for me.  Writing isn't easy, so every time I hear from a reader who enjoyed one of my books, I'm thrilled.  To have won an award through so many phases of judging will have me celebrating for quite some time!

I get to change "FINALIST" to "WINNER"!
