Vote for the 50 Best #Indie #Books of 2019! #amreading #amwriting #writerslife

A dangerous ghost brings them together...
but will they survive long enough
to find happiness?
Each year, Read Freely accepts nominations for their 50 Best Small Press and Indie Books competition, and from all the initial nominations, the list is whittled down to a short list of finalists.  I’m thrilled to announce The Haunting of Hillwood Farm made the list in the Paranormal category!  This is a romantic suspense/ghost mystery set on Cape Cod (and on sale for 99c at the moment!)  I’m hoping voters will consider voting for my book in the Paranormal category along with their other choices—you get 2 votes per category—and help small and indie authors gain more visibility for their books!  Voting is easy, and while an email address is required to keep people from voting multiple times, it is a very safe site (I've been a member for years...I like to find out about new books too!)

Please take a minute to check out the short list titles (and maybe find some new reads!) and vote for your choices, and thank you for coming by :)

The Haunting of Hillwood Farm can be found in the Paranormal Category

#Books for Fans of #Twilight ~ #YA #Paranormal #Romance #Angels #amreading #Fantasy

Like millions of fans, I loved the Twilight series.  I was hooked from the beginning of book one, and I had to pace myself from then on in order to stretch the story out rather than finishing the series in a few days.  Some of my friends and I joked about needing a support group when we did finish--it was that addictive!

As a paranormal romance author myself, I thought a lot about what elements of the story arc made the series so compelling to so many readers.  And a few years later, when an idea for a Young Adult Paranormal Romance wound its way into my imagination and wouldn't let go, I decided to write it, even though YA is not my usual genre.  The end result was a story of forbidden love and supernatural secrets involving revenge, romance, and a rogue fallen angel...Divine Fall.

"This delicious YA novel was filled with love...rich in history, suspense, and
enough twists to keep the reader turning the pages" ~ BTS Book Reviews

When initial editorial reviews came in comparing the story to Twilight and The Mortal Instruments, I was overjoyed!  This title won the Reader's Choice Award in the YA category at The Romance Reviews, and earned Finalist Positions for both The Reader's Crown Award and the Red Carpet Book Awards.  It even got a shout-out from the prestigious BookBub site, naming Divine Fall as one of "14 Books to Get You in the Mood for Fall".

"Reminded me of Twilight...reads quickly with action and romance"
~ Read for Your Future

This title is currently 99c, and part of a "Books for Fans of Twilight" Book Fair, along with eleven other titles to appeal to readers of YA Paranormal Romance and Fantasy.  Check out the link below and grab some new reads...many available for less than a buck or for free!

My First Trophy! RONE Award Winner Best #paranormal #romance #amwriting

Guess what arrived?  I was over the moon to learn that The Haunting of Hillwood Farm won InD'Tale Magazine's 2019 RONE Award for Best Paranormal - Short...and now it's even more "real", with a beautiful glass trophy that makes me smile every time I see it!

Opening the box made me realize this might be the first physical trophy I've ever received.  The only sports teams I was ever on in my younger years were poms in junior high and cheerleading in high school, and neither one of our squads was anywhere near good enough to compete.  For various achievements over the years, I've received a few plaques, some ribbons and medals, electronic badges and banners - all which were thrilling to earn and an honor to wear, share, or hang on the wall.  But I've never had a trophy to display on a shelf!  First time for everything right?  And for it to be for one of my books--the labor of love I spend so much time and effort on--is all the more rewarding.

The judging for the RONE Award is rigorous, with three rounds to get through.  First, a book only gets nominated if it earns a 4.5 star or higher review from InD'Tale.  Over twenty titles were nominated into my category: Paranormal - Short (meaning novella length).  The next round involved reader voting, and I asked readers, fans, and friends to help get me there...which you did, so THANK YOU again!  Becoming one of the six Finalists was such an honor, and I had no expectations beyond that.  The last round, to choose the winner, involved judges reading each of the titles and rating them.

On the weekend of the awards ceremony, I was absolutely shocked to open my phone and see a message from an author friend congratulating me on the RONE Award!  I did a double-take, read the message twice, asked for confirmation, and then pulled up Youtube to watch the ceremony myself.  It was true!

A beautiful solid glass book,
with my name and the book title engraved

I'm honored to have been among so many great books in the contest, and I appreciate everyone who voted during the Finals round!

If you haven't read The Haunting of Hillwood Farm, it's going to be on sale for 99c on Kindle starting mid-November ~ if you'd like a reminder, and more news on my books and upcoming sales and giveaways, sign up for my newletter here.

Lunch with the #Authors of #TWRP! Cape Cod #writerslife #amwriting #NaNoWriMo

Authors and President of The Wild Rose Press in Hyannis
Another wildly busy month is over...somehow October always flies by, which is a shame since as a fan of all things spooky, it's my favorite month!  Our weekends were filled with events--all fun ones, thankfully.  We had Parents' Weekend at UNH for our college kid, a 30-year-reunion at the Coast Guard Academy for my husband's class of 1989, a long girls' weekend away to Seattle with my BFFs (we all turned 50 this year and went to visit the one friend who ended up on the West Coast, since she always comes to us), a visit to a historic lighthouse and home now owned by the Coast Guard (a property that once included a small-pox hospital--book idea?), my first time seeing Sweeney Todd at a local theater, a book signing event, and Senior Night soccer game for my high school kid.

The view from our VRBO in Seattle...overlooking the harbor and Pike Place

It now seems like a long time ago, but in the middle of the month, I also had the pleasure of having lunch with the president of one of my publishers (The Wild Rose Press) and some local authors who also write for TWRP.

Last time the president of the company was here on Cape Cod was 2015, when she spoke at the Cape Cod Writer's Conference, and we had quite a group of authors together for lunch.

It's such fun to get together and talk shop with other writers, especially since writing can be such a solitary endeavor.  This month is National Novel Writing Month, which involves trying to write 50K words--nearly an entire novel--in 30 days, so I'll be quite a bit less social in November, as I work to finish the first draft of Ghost Moon, my 7th novel.

We had a wonderful meal at The Black Cat, right on the Hyannis waterfront, and I was able to catch up with a long-time author friend and meet a new one.  This event was much smaller than the last publisher lunch, seeing as how it was fall on Cape Cod as opposed to summer (and a Nor'Easter dumped wind and rain on the Cape all weekend as well).  But we had an intimate lunch filled with both work and personal topics, and lots of laughs.

Now, back to my NaNoWriMo daily word goal...wish me luck!
